Hello, my name is Anne Morse and I am the sustainability coordinator at Winona County. I have been working with the Master Gardeners and Sustain Winona on a new project - The Education Gardens at Stone Point. Its been exciting to watch this effort grow and gain support as community members learn about it.
Yesterday Chris Meyer and Caitlin Nicholson, the project's dynamic leaders, gave an update to members of the Sustain Winona Partnership. The Partnership, which includes representatives of Winona County, the City of Winona, WAPS, Saint Mary's, WSU, Cotter and Southeast Technical, were duly impressed. It was great for the members to hear how quickly the project is coming together and how positively the initiative is being received.
The County and the Master Gardeners will be reaching out to additional organizations and groups in the coming weeks and months, to involve them in the Education Gardens for the 2014 Growing Season. But anyone can sign up to participate right now by e-mailing [email protected].
This is just the beginning of a community-wide effort that will focus on food access, gardening education, healthy outdoor experiences and the building of community connections. I can't wait to see how these two great project leaders grow this project in the coming months. I'll try to provide reports here on their progress, on a regular basis. For now I'll just say its been a fantastic start!
